Being Led By The Invisible Compass

Never allow your ego to diminish your ability to listen.” ― Gary Hopkins

Imagine getting lost in a desert with no cell reception, no tour guide, no compass! Nothing. How do you find your way out? Do you keep walking without direction until you get help? Do you just sit and wait it out?

This is my outlook on life. Life is a “desert” where everyone is lost, and most people do not know what they are doing or where there are going. I say this because no one knows the future. None of us can predict what will happen tomorrow. So how do you navigate your life? How do you make the right choices? How do you move closer to God’s plan for you? PRAY – By praying and trusting that He has everything all planned out and under control. It is quite easy to say this as a Christian, but the truth is, that is what I do. I pray and seek direction because I believe God has already laid out the foundation of my life – what I should be doing, where I should be etc. Any decision I make will only take me closer to the plans God has for me.

God’s plan is perfect but ours is not. Sometimes, I may make decisions (without consulting God), and have a little setback. A project that ought to have been completed in one year may end up taking five years because of a wrong turn. How do we avoid taking this wrong turn? By listening and opening ourselves up to the Holy Spirit.

How come we still get lost when we have the best compass? Because most of us do not know how to use this compass! It is hanging around, guiding us even when we cannot see it, shielding us from danger, waiting to be used, but we never activate it. Why? Fear of where it may lead us; Ego – We believe that we can carve our own paths and we know the way, thus making the journey more complicated.

So, how do we gain access to the Holy Spirit?

  • Be friends first. Develop a relationship! Seek the Holy Spirit, avoid making decisions without consulting the Holy Spirt, even when it comes to the mundane things. When you can trust the Holy Spirit with small decisions, you will trust the Holy Spirit to guide you when making life changing decisions.

  • Be humble. Let go of your pride. Understand that you can do nothing without God. God has already sent you a Helper and a Guide, so why don’t you stop trying to control everything and seek guidance instead?

“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened. What father among you, if his son asks for a fish, will instead of a fish give him a serpent; or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!”– Luke 11:9-13

God loves you so much! More than you can comprehend. He has given you the tools you need to survive on earth, so why don’t you take advantage and start living the life God has planned for you?

Xo.
